I am not sure where credit is due for this anonymous submission, but it is a short screen capture of a huge bad beat jackpot going off at Absolute Poker recently. I believe it to be the largest bad beat jackpot ever to be hit at AP with 4 aces being cracked by a royal flush.

A bad beat is when a poker player has the strongest hand in the beginning but ends up getting beat.
For instance if you have a pair of 4s in your hand and the flop is 4-4-5, and your opponent has Ace-5 and hits a 5 of the turn and a 5 on the river, that's a bad beat.

Some land based poker rooms and online poker rooms offer a bad beat jackpot. Normally a small fee is taken from each pot, typically .50c in most online poker rooms. This makes it a progressive bad beat jackpot as the amount of the jackpot increases every hand played.

Every poker room divides the prize pool up differently but usually 50% of the jackpot goes to the loser of the hand (the one who took the "bad beat"), 25% goes to the winner of the hand and the remaining 25% goes to the rest of the table.

Every room sets the standards of what a "bad beat" is, but normally 4 of a kind must lose in order to be a part of the jackpot.
Now, in many people's eyes this would seem to be a dumb play but serves as a perfect illustration of how to play against super aggressive poker players.

A super aggressive poker player is a difficult propositon at the table because they are so very difficult to get a read on and this is the best way to play them. They are out to steal a lot of chips but at the least expense so you need to play them at their own game and make every confrontation as expensive as possible. Quite simply, this video shows why Michael was the 2007 No. 1 poker player in the world.

Eddie is a legendary stud and gin player and a mean holdem mofo, the video tells most of it but not all. He told me several stories of the late and great Stu "The Kid" Ungar, my favorite is this one, not on the video but funny anyway. Stu owed the mob around 250k for a horse gambling debt and had disappeared to play cards to make it up. Poor Eddie returned to their dingy Vegas digs only to be confronted by a couple of hit guys wanting to collect off of Stuey.

They made Eddie wait with them. Eddie knew for sure there was a shallow grave awaiting he and Stu in the Nevada desert. Some six hours later Stuey returns and the hit guys demand the money and Stuey informs them, cool as a cucumber, that he can only cover 200k. They ask why would he risk 250k if he can only cover 200k?

He answered cool as ever that it would be no fun otherwise. At that point Eddie tried to kill him by strangulation and was stopped. By next morning Stu had covered the additional 50k.
